IN HER SKIN | delilah koch @delilahkoch

Delilah, as pleasant of an energy as her name is. I first met her at a photoshoot last year in 2021. I remember her walking on to set with this big, bright, colorful aura beaming around her. Wearing all her necklaces, fingers stacked with rings, a beaded belt, and some tan bell bottoms, she came right up to me with open arms and said “Hi, I’m Delilah!”. I already knew were bound to be friends outside of work. Delilah is one of those people who can immediately lift you up with just her smile. Did you ever read “Star Girl”? Delilah is the real life version of Star Girl, prancing around New York City. I was so excited to be able to sit down and chat with her about life. She has so much to share, and spreads positivity and goal seeking like wildfire.
S: Okay, I have to ask first..your name necklace… Who makes it??
D: In allllll honesty I ordered this personalized on Etsy in high school and it’s lasted perfectly!! I do clean it every once in a while with some baking soda and water to wash off any tarnish and keep it sparkling! It was the first piece of jewelry I bought myself after my mom passed. It was my reminder to be myself and live my life for me and only me! Continue my life being strong. Delilah.
S: Love!! & where are you from?
D: I’m from Montana!! Big sky country! I grew up camping, hiking, fishing, and skiing!! I spent my summers in the woods or on the lake and winters winding down a snow covered mountain. I am so grateful to have had such a nature filled childhood! I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
S: That is so fun, I LOVE Montana. When did you move to NY?
D: I moved to NYC when I was 19!! I love it more each and every day. I’m so thankful I have continuous creative energy around me, people who believe in me and the infinite possibilities here!
S: Let's talk self-care.. What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
D: I love to take my mornings slow. I wake up, drink some water, and open my journal. I take the time to set my intentions for the day, dump any thoughts on the pages or simply write things I’m grateful for. Journaling is one of my favorite activities. Your journal will never judge you!!! Some mornings I’ll read a few pages from a book or even my phone! I love to prepare a nice breakfast, sit in the sun and soak it all in!
S: What does your self-care routine look like?
D: I keep it pretty simple. I wash my face, lather up with moisturizer/oils, and take some deep breaths. I like to watch my favorite show, or lay flat on my back eyes closed and just relax. Meditation has been extremely beneficial for me. Meditating doesn’t have to be hard, it can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths to gather your thoughts and clear your mind. There are guided meditations or even binaural beats that I love to throw on. Self care is different for everyone. It could be a walk in the park, getting your favorite meal or putting on your favorite movie. Whatever makes you feel relaxed and at ease..take the time to de stress and be kind to yourself.
S: Agreed. What products can’t you live without?
D: Recently added to the list is SKINNED. I love an oil. My face tends to be dry over anything else, so this oil has helped tremendously. I love a basic lotion as well like Cetaphil or CeraVe.
S: What’s on your bedside table?
D: Aquaphor. Always. Lava lamp. Jewelry. and of course, my bottle of Skinned
S: And how did you get in to modeling?
D: I was scouted out of high school and decided it was something I’d love to pursue. I have alllllways been interested in fashion. My mom and I would play dress up like it was our job! We bonded over our love of fashion and shopping. She encouraged me to try it and I’m so happy I did.
S: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
D: Wonderful question.. I hope to keep achieving the goals I have set in mind for myself, have bought an apartment/home, involved with some sort of affiliation towards NEDA and/or AFSP. Basically I see myself being happy, content and fulfilled. Giving back, creating with the intent to inspire and uplift, and enjoying every moment...wherever I may be!
S: Who is your biggest influence?
D: My best friends and family. They inspire me to be my best, encourage me, believe in me, and lead by example. I love to watch, learn and grow next to them. I am influenced by their selflessness, kindness and ease. I am reminded to be myself and speak my truth. I love watching others succeed it motivates me to dream big and believe in my goals. If they can do it so can you!
S: What are three things that make you feel vulnerable in your skin?
D: In all honesty I can’t think of too many things that I don’t embrace. Maybe when the weather changes and it gets more dry or a rash here and there. I really try to be easy on myself each day. I used to be indifferent about my ears but I’ve grown to love them.
S: What are three things that make you feel confident in your skin?
D: I love wearing no make-up and letting my skin be free. Dressing in vintage or thrift clothing makes me feel confident because I feel every piece is very me and sentimental. I take the time to sort through rack after rack until I find something that speaks to me or I feel represents me. Thrift and vintage shopping is such a fun way to be creative and expressive in your style. Not to mention the wonderful impact it has on the world and reusing clothing instead of buying from fast fashion. I also feel confident taking good care of myself. It feels wonderful to put time aside and set up a small face or body routine. I love to lather my face with oils and lotions and bask in the hydration. Doing a little something for myself makes me feel happy and special.
S: What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
D: It’s all part of the plan. Trust the process. Take the next step with ease. Be gentle on yourself. Forgive yourself. And set yourself free. Do YOUR best every day.
